A British textile studio working with one of the last remaining working linen mills in Scotland — and printing onto that cloth in England. Cloth & Clover's collection is made entirely in the UK, from traditional flax-to-linen milling through to small-scale printing, in a slow, considered way that produces fabric with the texture and weave of antique linen.

The Cloth & Clover base cloth is milled in Scotland on traditional looms, producing a linen that echoes the character of antique cloth. The warm cream base sits sympathetically alongside the studio's print palette, and — because linen is a natural fibre — the weave and colour vary slightly from batch to batch. This is part of the character: a fabric that reads as genuine handwork rather than mass production.

All linen begins with flax (Linum usitatissimum) — a plant grown across Western Europe and considered one of the more sustainable natural fibres. Flax matures in around 100 days, requires fewer fertilisers and pesticides than cotton, and every part of the plant is used: seeds for oil, fibres for linen, paper and rope. For specifiers working to environmental briefs, this is a relevant story to be able to tell.

Cloth & Clover linen is suitable for curtaining, upholstery, cushions, headboards, lampshades and soft furnishings across residential, commercial and hospitality interiors. The Printed Plains are particularly useful for upholstery and curtaining where a hand-printed solid is wanted in place of an off-the-shelf colour.
