Nichola Taylorson

A British textile designer working between the UK and Jaipur, where her designs are made in collaboration with traditional Indian artisans. Each Nichola Taylorson fabric is hand block-printed using techniques including block print and mud print, then often layered with hand and digital embroidery — a slow, considered process that produces fabrics with genuine tactile depth and the quiet authority of handwork.

Nichola graduated from Leeds College of Art in 2011 with a degree in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design, then moved to Mumbai to work as European designer for a furnishing fabric manufacturer. It was there — immersed in Indian craft traditions, block printing, mud printing, and the language of embroidery — that the studio's design vocabulary took shape.

Today the collection is designed in the UK and made in Jaipur, in close working relationships with artisans whose techniques have been refined over generations. The result is a contemporary range of textiles built on traditional craft.

Many Nichola Taylorson designs are offered in two finishes — the block-printed base and a hand-embroidered version of the same print. Designs including Anushka, Kali, Una and Bela Stripe are available in both — useful for designers wanting to use a single print at two registers within a single project: the plainer version on curtaining or bedheads, the embroidered version on cushions or a feature chair.

All Nichola Taylorson fabrics are printed on 100% natural fabrics, suitable for curtaining, upholstery, cushions, headboards, lampshades and soft furnishings across residential, commercial and hospitality interiors. Embroidered versions are best suited to lower-traffic applications — cushions, drapery, feature panels.
